Kate Dodson Strain founded Strain Law in 2019 bringing a thorough knowledge of trademark, franchise, and business law acquired over 16 years first at a large regional firm, Hunter, Maclean, Exley & Dunn, P.C. and then at Belzer PC, an intellectual property boutique firm. Kate has handled many trademark and other intellectual property matters at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board as well as in the state and federal courts. Not only has she filed and successfully obtained hundreds of trademark registrations for clients all over the US, she also filed many foreign trademark applications and has worked with attorneys all over the world to obtain trademark protection for clients in other countries. Additionally, Kate is well versed in the realm of copyright protection after having filed numerous copyright applications at the US Copyright Office.

Laura Andrews Hunter joined Strain Law in 2023 bringing years of experience helping clients with their legal needs. Laura worked at Wright, Worley, Pope, Ekster & Moss, PLLC for four years, after which she then opened her own practice, Laura A. Hunter, LLC. Prior to joining Strain Law, her legal practice focused on civil litigation, personal injury, estate planning, and general business counsel. Throughout these roles, she advised a variety of businesses and organizations on breach of contract claims, mechanic’s liens, lien enforcement, fraud, civil damages assessments, civil defense, partnership issues, sales agreements, nondisclosure agreements, contracts, and more. Because Laura has witnessed the costs and perils of litigation, she understands the importance of protecting a client’s trademarks as a deterrent to litigation and/or as protection should a client end up in the courtroom. Laura is licensed to practice law in South Carolina and New Jersey. At Strain Law, Laura helps clients obtain federal trademark registrations for their trademarks.
